Wondering what an event is like? Here's what happened at a Sunday lunch with 25 of us for the event at Smarden and many people contacted me afterwards to say that it was a particularly good event; someone wrote “It was a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable afternoon with great company and good food.” And one of the ladies rang in to say what a great bunch of men! It does make an event enjoyable when there is a good mix of people. There was also a good mix of ages ranging from early 30's to early 70's. One of the gentlemen then took us on a walking tour of Smarden - a village so pretty that it's been used for an Agatha Christie Miss Marple setting.

An added attraction to Sunday lunch in the Lenham village square inn is the Farmers’ Market. If you arrive early you will find The Square is full of farmers’ produce, crafts and antiques. Then after a good look around, you’ll no doubt enjoy a drink of your choice, an excellent three course lunch and tea or coffee to linger over afterwards. Get to know lots of new people who may become enduring friends – one of life’s greatest gifts.

The Castle Inn in Bodiam has become a real talking point in Eventualities. Very good food and a warm welcome make this venue one of our favourites. A drink outside (with fine views) is followed by a three course dinner and tea or coffee. Saturday night – good to spend it with friends, new and old.

Join us for a drink, in the garden if it’s fine, a three course dinner and tea or coffee to follow at The King William in Benenden. After our last visit, there were lots of superlatives flying around. ‘Excellent food’ said more than one email and there was a general consensus that we should come here more frequently. So we are! The Hadlow Manor Hotel offers a wonderful buffet/carvery Sunday lunch; there is a huge choice of starters and we are definitely spoilt for choice. There’s a lovely, informal atmosphere and we can stay and chat in the bar or the lounge afterwards. It’s easy to find on the A26 not far from Hadlow near Tonbridge.

The village of Smarden is so chocolate box pretty it is often featured on calendars or in TV shows. The landlord has sent me a scrumptious menu that features some unusual dishes and some old favourites. The inn is easy to find on the outskirts of the village and not far from Headcorn on the A249.

Then for those who want to go for a drink and perhaps a bite to eat - follow Myra and she’ll lead you up the garden... no, no, er... lead you somewhere good to eat - like she did last time!

The last time we visited The White Lion in Tenterden we filled up the whole restaurant. It is a justifiably popular venue. Tenterden is a delightful, quintessentially Kent town and we’ll look forward to a drink, a yummy three course dinner and lots of chat over the coffee.
